CURSO ACADÉMICO
2011 - 2012

Azcona High School was granted bilingual status on July 2011 within the Pluribilingual Project in Andalucia. This project was thought of as a new wide educational project enabling the Andalucian citizens to achieve a wide knowledge and understanding of  foreign languages in today’s global society, as a main instrument to achieve  success and share a better world.

Our center is starting this Plurilingual Project in the academic year 2011/12 with  a group in 1st level of Compulsory Secondary Education increasing progressively in following years till the first promotion ends in the academic year 2014/15.Our students come from CEIP Freinet ( Primary Bilingual School ) and other assigned centers.

A Bilingual School in Andalucia means that the teaching and learning of certain subjects or concepts is in two languages. As a result the hours in which students learn in a foreign language – English - increases. The foreign language is the instrumental language of learning those subjects although the maternal language, Spanish, continues to be the main language in order to explain or reinforce any concepts or topics. The idea is to teach some subjects or topics using both languages, the foreign and the other maternal one, without the idea that one language means the elimination of another. The subjects taught in English are Mathematics, Music and Science.

The main aim of the Bilingual Project is to promote plurilingualism and to focus on linguistic diversity, using the natural method of oral linguistic exposition giving priority to oral exchange. European Portfolio will be used following the recommendations of European Institutions.

The aims for our students are:

  • Advanced use of linguistics topics

  • A multicultural, plurilingual and  high quality education.

  • To teach the students the importance of learning foreign languages showing the relevance of this learning as members of a multicultural and global society .

  • To be educated in positive values, teaching them the recognition of other cultures and views and being tolerant and respectful of them.

  • Improve their educational processes, as learning in two or more languages aids the skills and abilities in their cognitive processes and reasoning in general.

The methodology used in this Plurilingual Proyect is the communicative approach with a constructivist focus giving relevance to the oral exchanges and oral interaction, rather than a conceptual method. The role of a student is of higher importance concerning the high level of participation. New technologies are excellent tools to provide an open vision of a new educational environment as they provide us with a huge amount of authentic materials and a great variety of real communicative situations in which students can be involved in their real lives.

Students in a Bilingual School study the same content as any other students at the same level, but with a methodology and approach focusing on tasks and global activities, paying high attention to oral production showing their knowledge of the different subjects using the foreign language. This goal is achieved by the coordination and cooperative work done by all the teachers involved in this Project through CLIC (Content and Language Integrated Curriculum).Teachers of non-linguistic areas used foreign language as the vehicle of communication in the classroom to teach the main contents whereas linguistic teachers reinforce and promote skills and competences to achieve the objectives, focusing on the development of the students’ communicative competence.

Teachers involve in this Plurilingual Proyect are:

  • Mrs Isabel Cristina Rosales Romero teaching Science

  • Mrs Mª Jose Corisco Martin teaching Spanish Language

  • Mr.Enrique Capilla Gomez teaching  French Language

  • Mrs Juana Pilar Galera Navarro teaching English Language and Coordinator of the Proyect.

  • Mr. Francisco Perez Pedrosa teaching Mathematics.

  • Mr. Sebastian Calero Lopez teaching Music.

  • Miss Katrina Barnes as the native speaker reinforcing the oral abilities of all the educational community.

The profile of a plurilingual student should show a high interest and implication in the educational process, being enthusiastic, actively participating, being determined and showing a great desire to be involved in original activities and tasks.

Once they have finished Compulsory Secondary Education, the students in this Project will achieve recognition of their level according to the Legal regulation of the Administrative Educational Authirities.
