1. The scenario

Next May 9th, 2005 (Europe Day), the European Parliament wants to invite a group of 30 students (aged 16-18) from one of the 15 old member states to a two-week visit to one of the new 10 member states. 

To be a candidate for this trip the group must accept certain conditions:

  • it must be a class-group, that means all students should be in the same basic classroom this course 2004-2005.
  • You have to do tasks 1 and 2.
  • You have to decide which country you want to visit and explain why

2.The tasks

The Tasks

Task 1

Using the link europa.eu.int , answer the 8 questions on Worksheet 1.

Task 2

Now that you are an expert on the European Union up to 2004, use the above link and the ones mentioned on Worksheet 2, to get the information required on Worksheet 2 about the new member states.

3. The  product

Write a letter to the Chairperson of the Commission who is going to decide which school will be selected for the visit informing him/her of the country you want to visit and your reasons for having taken this decision. Make sure to use the sources you have seen up to here and that your answer is well written and well supported.

Use a word processor from Office or OpenOffice.

The format of the letter must be formal.

Write between 100-150 words.
