Reflections from 2nd Elementary School of Paleo Faliro.
Greece
A lot of important events took place all over the world and particularly
in
Greece. Some of them were happy some sad.
One of the saddest that happened in Greece is the sinking of the boat "Express
Samina".
This boat was approaching Paros Island when it hit a reef and started sinking. The
inhabitants of Paros and the fishermen of the island rushed with their boats to help. They
tried hard with self denial and saved a lot of people but more than eighty drowned.
As I was watching the rescue operation on the television and the efforts and self
sacrifice of the fishermen and the unknown people who rushed into the cold sea to help
even before the official rescue team arrived I could not stop crying both for the people
who were lost in the cold waters of the Aegean Sea and the poor islanders that tried their
best.

One of the saddest events that happened last year in Greece was the sinking of the
ferryboat "Express Samina". It was night and the boat was approaching the island
of Paros when probably due to the captain's negligence hit a reef just outside the port
and started sinking. Some fishermen who were nearby rushed to help without thinking about
their lives or their boats which might get destroyed. A lot of people were saved but many
were lost too. Everybody tried to do his best and help the needy ones, especially the
young children and the old people that were on board. I consider those who helped heroes
because they have saved a lot of lives otherwise lost.

A lot of happy and sad events happened last year in Greece and all over the world. A
sad one for Greece is the sinking of the boat the "Express Samina". The boat hit
a reef as it was approaching the port of the island of Paros. Although fishermen and
simple people from the island rushed to help with self denial, a lot of the boat
passengers drowned. This was very sad and the whole country mourned.
