Christmas food

In the Middle Ages, they ate a pig´s head with an apple in its mouth. But now, they all eat a Mexican bird, called a "turkey". It is also very popular the Christmas pudding, grandmas mix raisins, plums and brandy by hand for 40 minutes, then cook the mixture for five hours, it takes so long that even the best grannies sometimes buy them in secret ! they prefer to save their energy to write their greetings cards, at the end of the year people send dozens even to people they forget for the rest of the year, Why? because they want to receive cards in return to decorate their houses. So on Christmas Day they eat turtle soup, roast turkey and potatoes and finally, Christmas pudding. They serve it flaming with brandy and decorated with a sprig of holly. It´s great !.

Decorations

They also decorate Christmas trees with popcorn which is a very popular tradition very cheap and very funny to do, after popping the corn they paint and sew the popcorn together with a needle and thread and use them as garlands,round the tree or make little wreaths and attach them to the tree with coloured bows, you can do it it´s real fun. During the night, overexcited children hang up theit stockings at the end of their beds. "Father Christmas will feel them !", as they know, They leave him mince pies, and sprouts for the reindeer, of course, they wake up early on Chistmas Day, to find out what they have been given ! .

Chrismas music.

Carol singers, group around lanterns, appear in the streets at the beginning of December and children ring at doors and sing for coins and cakes. One of the most famous English carol is "Silent Night" which originated in Austria and is famous in Spain too !.

Boxing Day

After Christmas Day English people don´t work, it´s called "Boxing Day", because they used to give money in boxes to the postman , the milkman, and so on...they visit friends or go to funny places , called pantomimes. Pantomimes are shows in December and January. They are based on children´s stories, such as "Cinderella" but with some changes: the hero is played by a woman and the comic female roles by men, some even with some moustaches !. In good old days, pantomimes were acted by members ofthe family. Now people watch pantomimes acted by pop stars.
