Historia del Archivo Histórico Provincial de Almería *History of the Provincial Historical Archive of Almería

El Archivo Histórico Provincial de Almería se creó a raíz del Decreto de 12 de noviembre de 1931 y se cuenta entre los catorce primeros que empezaron a funcionar en España, formando parte de la Red de Archivos Históricos Provinciales. En 1932 se constituyó la Junta del Patronato del Archivo Histórico Provincial, encargada de gestionar la recogida de los fondos del mismo y en 1935 se recibe la primera remesa documental: Protocolos Notariales procedentes de Almería, Berja, Canjáyar, Gérgal y  Sorbas. Sucesivamente fue recepcionando y custodiando documentación de diversos organismos e instituciones provinciales.

La gestión de este centro, de titularidad estatal, se transfirió a la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía por Real Decreto 864/1984, de 29 de febrero de 1984. En la actualidad se rige por un nuevo convenio de gestión firmado el 23 de mayo de 1994 y es integrado ese mismo año en el Sistema Andaluz de Archivos, que depende de la Consejería de Educación, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía.

En el año 1990 se produce la inauguración oficial y definitiva de la ubicación de todos los fondos documentales que conservaba el Archivo, en un edificio adquirido y rehabilitado por el Ministerio de Cultura para tal fin. Situado en pleno centro histórico de la ciudad, el "Palacio de los Vizcondes del Castillo Almansa" constituye un singular ejemplo arquitectónico de casa señorial del S. XIX.

El edificio, de 3.000 m², consta de cinco plantas con cuatro depósitos principales, con estanterías tipo "compactus"; además cuenta entre sus instalaciones con Sala de investigadores, Biblioteca, Salas de Clasificación, Despachos, Secretaría, etc.

 

* The Provincial Historical Archive of Almería was founded because of the the Decree 12 November 1931,  it is one of the fourteen first Archives which started to function in Spain, and it is also part of the Historical Provincial Archives´s network.  In 1932, it was formed, what is called “Junta de  Patronato” from the Historical Provincial Archive. This so-called “Junta de Patronato” was the one in charge of the compilation of the Archive´s collections and in 1935 the first documentary remittance: notary´s protocol originating from Almería, Berja, Cánjayar, Gérgal and Sorbas. It was receiving and holding in custody documentations from diverse provincial organisms and institutions. 
 

The management of this centre, state-owned, was transferred to the Autonomous Community by the Royal Decree 846/1984, February 29, 1984. Currently, it is ruled by a new management agreement signed in May 23, 1994. In 1994 it turns to be part of the Andalusian System of Archives which depends on the Education,Culture and Sports´s Ministry of the Junta de Andalucía.


In 1990 it was the official opening and the final location was established for all the documentary collections that the Archive guarded. It is a building acquired and rehabilitated by the Ministry of Culture. The building is located in the heart of the historic centre of the city, “el Palacio de los Vizcondes from Almansa´s Castle” is a unique architectural example of a stately home.

The building, with an extension of 3000m2, is formed by five floors containing four main warehouses, within it, there are compact shelving shelves racks. Among its facilities there are a researchers´s room, a library, classifications´s room, office areas, secretary´s office, etc.
