Stichting Keunstwurk

Stichting Keunstwurk provides art to come forward, gaining strength. We do that by sharing knowledge, establishing connections and the implementation and stimulation of innovation. A task we perform every day in full conviction. Being a cultural service, Keunstwurk stimulates the Frisian art and culture in a broad sense. As a provincial organization we focus on amateur arts, cultural education and the professional arts in Friesland. Our work covers fine arts, design, theatre, dance, music and multidisciplinary projects.

Keunstwurk works for a large number of target groups: pupils in primary and secondary education, institutions providing vocational education in fine arts (in different levels), (talented) youth and adults, artists, teachers in the different art-disciplines, cultural and social institutions and governments. With all our activities we annually achieve approximately one hundred thousand children, youth and adults in the province. We offer support and advice and initiate innovative projects. As we are the centre of knowledge as to arts and culture, we provide tailored advice. By organizing workshops, courses and training, we offer support and provide a further professionalization. We do this both for the teachers of art as for cultural and social institutions. With the artists, organizations and associations we try where-ever possible to establish links and accept new challenges.

Being a network-organization we have built many different networks in the past decades, as well in art as in the caring- en welfare-sector. In the near future community-arts will have a high priority on our agenda, working on social themes such as ageing, crimp of villages, youth. Keunstwurk works in the entire province; the organization is housed in Leeuwarden. We receive a multi-annual grant of the province of Fryslân. In addition we annually manage to acquire incidental subsidies from government, municipalities, funds and individuals.

Keunstwurk is divided into two main departments: Arts&Education and Arts&Participation. These two departments work separately as well as together. The department of Dance is part of Arts&Participation. Throughout the last decennia it has organized many projects in the field of dance. Ranging from seminars for dance-teachers to amateur-festivals.

Also at national level we have performed different projects, mainly concerning the stimulation of young talents. We have close contacts with both regional and national dance-institutions.

Leeuwarden will be European Capital of Culture in 2018. The theme Mienskip runs through the whole program; the involvement of the Frisian society in realizing the ambitions of the organization.

Keunstwurk is closely involved in the program with different projects, including De Reis/ The Journey (a multi-year community art project where residents of neighborhoods and villages in cooperation with an artistic director design and implement a project around a theme that plays in their habitat.) and DûnsDansDance (a danceproject making dance visable through a festival and increasing participation in dance through a grand Danceparade).

Stichting Keunstwurk helpt de kunst om vooruit te komen, aan kracht te winnen. We doen dat door het delen van kennis, tot stand brengen van verbindingen en door innovatie te stimuleren en concreet te maken. Een taak die wij elke dag uitvoeren in volle overtuiging. Als provinciale culturele instelling stimuleert Keunstwurk de Friese kunst en cultuur in brede zin. We richten ons daarbij op amateurkunst, cultuureducatie en de professionele kunsten in Friesland. Ons werk omvat beeldende kunst, vormgeving, theater, dans, muziek en multidisciplinaire projecten.

Keunstwurk werkt voor een groot aantal doelgroepen: leerlingen in het primair en voortgezet onderwijs, instellingen voor beroepsonderwijs in de beeldende kunst (in verschillende niveaus), (talentvolle) jongeren en volwassenen, kunstenaars, docenten in de verschillende kunstdisciplines, culturele en sociale instellingen en overheden. Met al onze activiteiten bereiken we jaarlijks ongeveer honderdduizend kinderen, jongeren en volwassenen in de provincie. Wij bieden ondersteuning en advies en initiëren innovatieve projecten. Aangezien we het kenniscentrum van kunst en cultuur zijn, geven we advies op maat. Door het organiseren van workshops, cursussen en trainingen bieden wij ondersteuning en zorgen voor een verdere professionalisering. We doen dit voor zowel kunstdocenten als voor de culturele en maatschappelijke instellingen. Met kunstenaars, organisaties en verenigingen proberen we waar mogelijk verbindingen te leggen en nieuwe uitdagingen aan te gaan.

Omdat wij een netwerk-organisatie zijn, hebben we veel verschillende netwerken opgebouwd in de afgelopen decennia, zowel in de kunst als in de zorg- en welzijnssector. In de nabije toekomst heeft community-arts een hoge prioriteit op onze agenda, waarbij we werken aan maatschappelijke thema’s zoals vergrijzing, krimp van dorpen, jongeren. Verschillende projecten zijn in het verleden door Keunstwurk ontwikkeld en georganiseerd betreffende grote Friese evenementen, het verbinden van kunst aan sport, cultuur, historische gebeurtenissen. Keunstwurk werkt in de hele provincie; de organisatie is gehuisvest in Leeuwarden. We krijgen een meerjarige subsidie van de provincie Fryslân. Daarnaast slagen we er jaarlijks in om incidentele subsidies van de overheid, gemeenten, fondsen en individuen te verwerven.

Keunstwurk is verdeeld in twee afdelingen: Kunst & Educatie en Kunst & Participatie. Deze twee afdelingen werken zowel afzonderlijk als samen. De afdeling Dans is een onderdeel van Kunst & Participatie. In de afgelopen decennia is een groot aantal projecten georganiseerd op het gebied van dans. Variërend van workshops voor dansleraren tot amateurdansfestivals.

Ook op nationaal niveau hebben we verschillende projecten uitgevoerd, vooral met betrekking tot het stimuleren van jong talent. We hebben nauwe contacten met zowel regionale als nationale dansinstellingen.

Leeuwarden is in 2018 Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa. Het thema Mienskip loopt door het hele programma; de betrokkenheid van de Friese samenleving in het realiseren van de ambities van de organisatie.

Keunstwurk is met verschillende projecten nauw betrokken in het programma. Waaronder De Reis (een multi-jaar community art project waar de bewoners van de wijken en dorpen in samenwerking met een artistiek directeur ontwerp en uitvoering van een project rond een thema dat speelt in hun habitat) en DûnsDansDance (een dansproject dat dans zichtbaar wil maken in de vorm van een festival en een grootse dansparade).
