In this exhibition, Lucía Díaz Barrales takes a critical look at the construction of the figure of the witch in the context of Andalusia. In her search for specific information, she gleaned facts from the reports of cases tried by the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition, like that of Leonor Rodríguez, immortalised in Cervantes’s novella The Dialogue of the Dogs as “La Camacha”.

The works featured in this show are presented as science disguised as magic, ordinary household objects that grow at will in a kind of mineral happening.

Lucía’s pieces reflect the ancient legacy of strong wise women who passed down their knowledge over the centuries, learning from the experiences of their female neighbours to perfect their collections of herbs and recipes, assist and prevent childbirth and cure ailments.

The exhibition catalogue features an essay by María Terrón.

The project’s master is Álvaro Albaladejo.

A guided tour of the exhibition will be held shortly and the catalog will be presented.
