Antonio Barahona

Sevilla, 1984

He graduated from the University of Seville with a BFA in the speciality of painting in 2008. Two years later, Fundación Antonio Gala selected him to participate in its ninth residency programme, where he was able to produce the project Costumbrismo andaluz, a look at the flipside of Andalusian culture through costumbrista painting (a romantic style of genre painting that focuses on local folk customs and traditions).

His paintings have received numerous prizes and distinctions, including 1st Prize in the 25th City of Álora International Painting Competition (2014), selected exhibitor in the BP Portrait Award show at the National Portrait Gallery, London (2012), 2nd Prize in the Axa Cathedral of Burgos Painting Contest (2011), and 1st Prize in the Athenaeum of

Seville National Painting Competition (2010), among others.

His work has been featured in various solo and group exhibitions, most recently 1929, Paisismo Contemporáneo, a one-man show at Lugadero (Seville, 2014), and Verdes Ramas, an individual exhibition at Galería d’art El Quatre (Barcelona, 2014). He has also exhibited at different galleries in London, León, Granada, Mallorca and Córdoba.
