Mariana Hormaechea

Vizcaya, 1983

With a BA in Art History from the University of Seville and an MA and PhD in Advanced Art History Studies from the University of Barcelona, she currently works as an independent curator and cultural agent. In the course of her career, she has managed cultural events, conducted educational and research activities, and coordinated and curated exhibitions for companies and institutions such as the MACBA (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona), CICUS (Centre for Cultural Initiatives, University of Seville), CAAC (Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla), Fundación Valentín de Madariaga (Seville), Regional Government of Andalusia, CAC Málaga (Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga), GPD (Gestiona Producciones y Diseño, Seville), Instituto Cervantes, MAV (Mujeres en las Artes Visuales/Women in Visual Arts), Fundación CajaSol, LOOP-Barcelona International Video Art Festival, Centre de les Dones Francesca Bonnemaison (Barcelona), Provincial Council of Barcelona and Galería Àngels Barcelona, among others.

In 2013 she directed the Miradas de Mujeres Festival in Andalusia, and she is currently the director and curator of personal projects such as El vídeo en el aula, which explores the integration of video art in the educational arena, and Talleres emprendedores, a workshop programme for entrepreneurs. She also has extensive experience as a writer/editor of online cultural contents and in the field of arts-related publications and communications.
