Objetivos

Understand the nature of attention and how it affects our direct experience. Explore diversification of teaching practice through the use of Multiple Intelligences and the emotional factor in learning. Understand the causes of stress and explore ways of dealing with stress more effectively. Reflect on and connect current teaching practice with CLIL. Gain awareness of fundamental CLIL concepts (4Cs). Explore the relationship between language, content and cognition (translanguaging). Familiarize ourselves with scaffolding strategies for adapting authentic texts. Boost communication through collaborative and cooperative group activities that can be transferred to the workplace to improve coordination of objectives, content and interventions.

Contenido

Throughout the six sessions we will be exploring the teaching/learning environment from a number of different disciplines or perspectives: We will be using elements of coaching to understand the nature, causes and effects of motivation (ours and that of our students) and how our motivation affects our teaching intentions. Furthermore, coaching tools will assist in developing greater self-awareness about our role as educators, our strengths and areas of weakness and ways with which to overcome the challenges we face in our teaching environments. Mindfulness practice and principles will be considered and implemented to understand the nature of attention and how the quality of our attention determines a great deal of what is happening in the classroom and in our teaching environment. We will explore ways of cultivating greater attention and capacity for concentration that contributes to training our ability for critical thinking (HOTS - Higher Order Thinking Skills), skills of analysis, to developing creativity, improving our communication skills and to reducing levels of stress and anxiety. Multiple Intelligences and Emotional Intelligence will be central points of focus to better understand the emotional component in learning and we will consider how attending to Multiple Intelligences diversifies our teaching practice while at the same time attending to diversity in our classrooms. Developing greater self-awareness of the power and role of the emotions is key in improving our communicative competence, capacity for empathy and for building safe learning environments that are conducive to and contribute to promoting more effective learning outcomes. Finally, throughout the six weeks, there will be an ongoing focus on understanding, acquiring, experimenting and evaluating CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning), which that will include language analysis of receptive and productive skills, attending to all the skills on the CEFR framework of reference.

Descripción

I would like to not feel so stressed in my day to day experience at work. I would love to go into my classes with greater inspiration and motivation. I need to look at teaching from new eyes and renew my commitment to my projects. I often feel that I lack control or what is happening around me. I frequently have the sensation that with so many tasks needing doing I forget the things that are most important to me. If you feel identified with some of these affirmations, it is an unequivocal sign that you care about what is happening around you and how the people in your environment feel and the reality expressed in these statements will be at the very heart of much of what we will be exploring on this course. In the same way that the acquiring of knowledge is gained through English in bilingual education, on this course, a new knowledge of English will be one of the fruits of our work, where we shall be focussing on matters that are common and relevant to the whole.
