Module 1: Communication skills
Oral communication is a multi-faceted skill that involves many elements: active listening, clarifying, keeping the conversation going, turn-taking, etc. In this module, we will look at practical classroom activities to help students become aware of and improve their communication skills.
Module 2: Critical and creative thinking
While critical and creative thinking are valued in most disciplines, they become particularly important in those subjects connected with language. Through language, learners can express and develop their thoughts and higher order thinking processes. In this module we will look at practical ways of fostering critical and creative thinking in the English language classroom.
Module 3: Collaboration
Language, and also language learning, is fundamentally social. Collaborative learning is based on two key ideas: we learn best by doing, and we learn best when we learn together. In this module we will look at how we can provide opportunities for learners to learn together, and in doing so, develop their team-working and collaborative skills.
Module 4: Learning from feedback
Learning from and being able to give constructive feedback is a key soft skill. The language classroom provides many opportunities for learners to reflect on their own and others¿ performance, and in this module, we will look at a range of feedback techniques and how to help students to apply feedback to their own learning..
