CUESTA MANELI - Ventana del Visitante
The Cuesta Maneli information point is located in a very unique environment: the El Asperillo fossil dune system, located within the Doñana Natural Park between the towns of Matalascañas and Mazagón.
Visitors will be able to learn about the importance of vegetation in the formation of this ecosystem through information provided by this facility located on the route of the Cuesta Maneli signposted hiking trail that crosses the dunes until it reaches an immense virgin beach. Thanks to the roots ofthe vegetation, mobile dunes are stabilised, the sands settling and preventing their displacement.
The plants that live here are small in size and padded in shape to withstand the constant winds and drought conditions. Among the plants we can identify marram grass, a pioneer in the colonisation of sandy soils, and the corema, an species which iks exclusive to the peninsular Atlantic coast and that has a small white fruit that they call the pearl of the dunes. Other plant species around are savin junipers, junipers and pines. You can also notice the presence of animals by the footprints that they leave as they pass through the sands.
