DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

Throughout the route, the user can enjoy one of the best conserved holm oak and cork oak forests in the entire mountain range, standing out for both the density of trees and canopy coverage, not to mention the vitality and dimensions of many of the the specimens it comprises. Among these, the so-called "Alcornoque de las Minas de Teuler" stands out, cataloged as a legacy tree of Andalusia and whose exceptional dimensions make it one of the main points of interest of the route.

The open holm oak and cork oak woodlands (dehesas) are also enriched by the presence of specimens of other species that denote the presence of a well-established agricultural activity in the area. Thus, it is possible to see examples of fig and olive trees, accompanied by white heather, dog roses, blackberries, lavender, rockrose and broom.

During this part of the route, the path is framed on both sides by a succession of dry masonry walls that delimit the route from with the neighbouring farms. The walls are generally quite well preserved and among their stones you can see numerous examples of ruderal and rock plants, lichens and mosses, allowing them to blend into the surrounding landscape.

The first part of the route concludes in the vicinity of the mine pit that can be accessed by taking the Cala path towards the town and which (after a short climb) brings us closer to the viewpoint at the highest point of the open pit.

The return to Santa Olalla is done following the old mining railway route which, as the way is rather narrow, offers a very winding route with many trenches and embankments allowing visitors to enjoy a heterogeneous and diverse landscape.

The track ends at the old mining railway station. These are the remains of the old facilities from which a beautiful panoramic view of the castle-fortress of Santa Olalla and the hermitage of La Asunción can be seen.

HOW TO GET

The cycle lane starts at the very urban area of San Olalla, and you can access the starting point from carretera A-461, crossing Federico García Lorca street, Plaza de la Libertad and Colón street until the end of the urban area where there are signs that announce the beginning of the trail. It can also be accessed from the A-461 road, through a tarmacked road that runs for about 1,400 metres before reaching the roundabout that connects with the N-630. This path connects directly with the old station of the Las Minas de Teuler railway line. If you are using this access route, you would follow the bike path in the opposite direction to if you use the alternative access route.
