El Buscador Estadístico selecciona de entre un listado de fuentes estadísticas aquéllas que mejor se adecúen a las necesidades de información de cada usuario, proporcionando además del enlace a la institución productora de los datos, en su caso, las explotaciones (PEB) elaboradas a partir de ellas por el Observatorio.
El campo “Área temática” ofrece la posibilidad de seleccionar un determinado tema de interés.
El campo “periodicidad” permite acceder a las fuentes en función de su ritmo de publicación, entendiéndose éste de manera incluyente. Por ejemplo, seleccionando la categoría “anual” se obtendrán todas aquellas fuentes que se publiquen, por lo menos, una vez al año.
Respecto de la “nacionalidad” de los inmigrantes, las fuentes existentes presentan la información por continente geográfico, según la pertenencia o no a la UE, mediante otra agrupación de varios países o bien por países específicos.
En cuanto a la “desagregación territorial”, éste parámetro se refiere al desglose máximo de los datos, es decir, si se presentan por municipios, por provincias, por autonomías, o a nivel estatal. Estos conceptos se manejan de nuevo de manera incluyente, de modo que una búsqueda por “regional” visualizará todas aquellas fuentes que permitan alcanzar este nivel de desglose, comprendidas aquellas fuentes que además, alcancen un nivel de desagregación provincial o, en su caso, municipal.

- Births are classified in terms of the age of the parents, gestation period, weight of the newborn, order of birth, profession of the mother, profession of the father, nationality of the parents.
- Late fetal deaths are classified by the age of the parents, gestation period, weight of the newborn, order of birth, profession of the mother, profession of the father, nationality of the parents.
- Marriages are also classified in termos of the age of the parties, previous marital status, profession, way of celebration, nationality of the parties.

UNIVERSITY EDUCATION
To obtain data on the number and characteristics of foreign-nationality university students.
Sex, age, nationality, type of teaching received, name of university, of center and province of its location.
STUDENT PERMITS
Data regarding number and characteristics of foreigners authorized to study in Spain at officially recognized educational facilities, as well as their family members.
Nationality, province of residence, type of authorization, age and sex.
