Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare the integrated cultivation of Salicornia ramosissima as a photosynthetic functional unit in two marine fish production systems, namely a RAS and a flow-through system, for the reduction of inorganic nitrogen and phosphate in their discharges over a period of three months. During the experiment, we analysed the effluent of both systems and evaluated the productivity of Salicornia plants grown in hydroponic systems, as well as their capacity to absorb nutrients in the different effluents and their organoleptic characteristics. The study demonstrates the potential of integrated cultivation of the halophyte. This can be adapted to different land-based fish farming models. Salicornia improves the quality of discharges and provides farmers with a new product of high added value.
