Abstract
Legumes are essential for global food security and ecosystem resilience. The demand for plant-based proteins is expanding and faba bean crop (Vicia faba L.) are a good candidate to meet this need. Protein content is subject to a clear genotype x environment interaction. Nitrogen concentration during seed development varies among genotypes, years, and locations, mainly due to environmental factors. In the present study, the protein content has been determined in a collection of faba bean of 400 accessions in different locations and years. The results of this work have allowed us to identify 79 stable genotypes between environments with more than 30% protein. This selected material can cover different markets in the agri-food industry and can be an alternative to soybean imports.
