Intervención arqueológica puntual mediante excavación con sondeos en el Valle de Espique (La Peza, Granada)

Abstract

Se presentan los resultados de la excavación arqueológica con sondeos llevada a cabo en el valle de Espique, en un área conocida como ¿Iglesia de Santa Catalina¿ asociada al yacimiento andalusí de El Castillejo (La Peza, Granada). La excavación en el entorno e interior de las estructuras emergentes existentes en este lugar han podido ser identificadas como un mausoleo y un balneum, cuya construcción se fecha en el siglo V dC., y que estuvieron en uso hasta los inicios del siglo XII dC. In this paper are shown the results from the archaeological digging undertaken in the Espique valley, in an area known as ¿Iglesia de Santa Catalina¿ associated with the Islamic site of El Castillejo (La Peza, Granada). Thanks to the archaeological intervention in the outer part and the interior of the surfacing-built structures the function of this site has been identified: a mausoleum and a balneum ¿ or bath complex ¿ whose construction dates to the 5th century AD, and were in use until the beginning of the 12th century AD.
