Actividad Arqueológica de Urgencia en los restos del puente romano Vía Augusta (TM. Mengíbar, Jaén).

Abstract

Presentamos los resultados de la Actividad Arqueológica de Urgencia en los restos del puente romano - Vía Augusta (Mengíbar, Jaén). Esta intervención, en la que se ha empleado una estrategia de documentación arqueológica que combina la modelización digital del terreno, el desarrollo de trabajos de microprospección, prospección geofísica y finalmente sondeos arqueológicos, ha permitido refutar la hipótesis de partida, que planteaba la posible presencia de una estructura de cimentación en la orilla izquierda del río Guadalquivir, relacionada con un posible paso de la Vía Augusta sobre el rio Guadalquivir a través de un puente (Bellón et al., 2021). La actuación ha permitido identificar y delimitar la presencia de un gran edificio, situado junto al río Guadalquivir, a escasos 130 metros al oeste del Ianus Augustus, que estuvo activo entre época alto imperial y mediados del siglo IV dne, coincidiendo su abandono con el del complejo monumental, lo que permite comenzar a analizar y contextualizar la compleja intrahistoria del escenario en el que se situó este hito en la red viaria de la provincia Baetica. We present the results of the Emergency Archaeological Activity on the remains of the Roman bridge - Vía Augusta (Mengíbar, Jaén). This intervention, in which an archaeological documentation strategy has been used that combines digital modeling of the terrain, the development of micro-prospecting works, geophysical prospecting and finally archaeological surveys, has made it possible to refute the starting hypothesis, which posed the possible presence of a Foundation structure on the left bank of the Guadalquivir river, related to a possible passage of the Via Augusta over the Guadalquivir river through a bridge. The action has made it possible to identify and delimit the presence of a large building, located next to the Guadalquivir river, just 130 meters west of the Ianus Augustus, which was active at least between the high imperial period and the mid-4th century AD, coinciding with its abandonment that of the monumental complex, which allows us to begin to analyze and contextualize the complex intra-history of the scenario in which this landmark was located in the road network of the Baetica province.
