Intervención arqueológica puntual mediante excavación arqueológica extesiva en el yacimiento paleontológico de Barranco de las Seguidillas Baza-1

Abstract

El objetivo fundamental de la campaña ha sido recuperar y registrar la mayor cantidad de información posible, para ampliar el conocimiento del Plioceno en la cuenca de Baza. Se ha introducido una nueva metodología de documentación y gestión de los datos de excavación a través del programa ARCHE10, que permite informatizar el registro de datos y relacionar las coordenadas de cada registro obtenidas a través de la estación total, gracias al protocolo 3D3P. Además, dispone de herramientas para la edición e impresión de etiquetas y la caracterización estadística y espacial de los registros en curso. Se ha realizado un trabajo exhaustivo sobre la estratigrafía del yacimiento, definiéndose 6 Unidades Estratigráficas con sus respectivos niveles, entre las que destaca la Unidad 2 por su mayor riqueza en fósiles. Es notable el hallazgo, de abundantes restos en la ampliación de la excavación hacia la parte superior de la ladera, donde aflora la Unidad 5. Se han registrado un total de 606 restos fósiles, correspondientes a Anancus arvernensis, Mammut borsoni, Proboscidea indet., Stephanorhinus jeanvireti, Hipparion sp., Alephis sp., Antilope sp., Bovidae indet., Cervidae indet., Suidae indet., Ave indet., Chelonia indet., además de un coprolito, abundantes gasterópodos, y fragmentos de restos vegetales. The main objective has been to unearth and record as much information as possible, increasing knowledge on the Pliocene in the Baza basin. We have introduced a new methodology for the documentation and management of excavation data through the ARCHE10 program, which, thanks to the 3D3P protocol, allows the data recording to be computerized, and to relate the topographic coordinates of the total station taken for each record. In addition, it has tools that facilitate editing, printing labels, and a first statistical and spatial characterization of the records in progress. We have studied the stratigraphy of the Baza-1 site and have defined 6 Stratigraphic Units with their respective levels, Unit 2 being very rich. It is notable the discovery of abundant fossils in the extension of the excavation towards the upper part of the hillside, where Unit 5 emerges. In 2022, a total of 606 fossil remains have been recorded, corresponding to Anancus arvernensis, Mammut borsoni, Proboscidea indet., Stephanorhinus jeanvireti, Hipparion sp., Alephis sp., Antilope sp., Bovidae indet., Cervidae indet., Suidae indet., Ave indet., Chelonia indet., in addition to a coprolite, abundant gastropods, and vegetal remain fragments.
