SIGNPOSTED TRAIL

CASA DE LA MINA-PRADILLOS

DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The mountains of Tejeda and Almijara form an imposing barrier that hinders communications between Granada and Malaga. However, a series of natural corridors have historically been used to trace routes which, with countless problems, connected places and cultures, generated economies and excited imaginations.

In the 40s of the last century, this steep mountain massif was still impassable by cart; It was only passable, therefore, on foot or on saddle, using mules for loads. The mule trade was of huge importance here for centuries, maintaining authentic commercial routes that crossed the ports of Cómpeta or Frigiliana, or followed the royal road of Granada -which became the Cabra motorway- thanks to which, for example, fresh fish from the coast to Alhendín could be transported and later sold at the Granada market.

This path brings us both to the history and the nature of some mountain ranges that are left over from one to the other, as well as offering us magnificent views of their landscapes. One of the attractions of this hiking trail is the panoramic views of the area known as Tejar, where tiles and solid bricks were manufactured for the construction of nearby shops and houses. The Mediterranean, the Barranco del Mirlo and even some mountain goats can surprise you on this path.

For botanists, this hiking trail is of great interest due to the many endemic species found on it.
