DUNAR - Ventana del Visitante
Walking this path you will get to know the most important living or mobile dune system of all those that remain in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most spectacular landscapes of the Doñana National Park.
The dune path is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and allows you to appreciate a number of different subsystems, from the embryonic dune areas at the edge of the beach, to the first line of big trees that appear.
The embryonic dunes begin to form on the beach when the winds blow the sand and accumulate around any small obstacles in the relief. These mounds will grow with the sand brought by the wind and begin their advance to join others and form immense dunes, hundreds of metres inland.
The first dune front is made up of small dunes close to the beach which are covered by various species of herbs and shrubs, since the mobility of the sand and the intensity of the wind do not allow the growth of larger plants. Here you can see how the vegetation colonises the most protected areas.
