The path starts from the Fuente del Esparto located next to the old miners' houses. It runs along a forest track to the slope of the Galgos, where it descends to the Chíllar river.
Our path reaches the head of the Chillar river, which is deservedly well-known due to its spectacular appearance, marked by sizeable defiles and narrow gorges (called cahorros or cajorros). This is another of the permanent water rivers that are so common in these mountains, thanks to the natural underground reserve systems
We will see the strong peaks of the Sierra Almijara where they nest, as well as large birds of prey and many other visible birds without great difficulty.
The path shares its route with the GR-249.
From Malaga on the N-340 towards Motril take exit 295 towards Cueva de Nerja. Following the forest track and leaving the Pinarillo recreational area behind, one kilometre three hundred metres away we find the Fuente del Esparto, the starting point of the trail.
