DESCRIPTION

The appeal of this viewpoint, in addition to the fabulous views, is the history that can be extracted from everything in sight. The first thing that catches the visitor's attention is the chimney that stands just below, a remnant of what was once an important nucleus of industrial activity, where the resin of the maritime pines that populated the area was extracted and manufactured. The devastating fire that happened in the mid-seventies, together with the much more profitable production of chemical products, led to the closure of this factory and the lands were left derelict.

Nowadays, you can see the remains of the barracks of the Civil Guard, the old school and the chapel which has been converted into a visitor centre.

There is a high degree of regeneration in the area, which is plain to see as the riverside forests of the Cacín and Cebollón rivers grow between abundant scrub, black pines and poplar groves. The wood of the poplars is used to make fruit boxes, toothpicks and lolly sticks.
