From this viewpoint there is an excellent panoramic view of the interior part of the mountains, with a typical succession of peaks and valleys, between which the Guadalquivir River flows.
This is the landscape that was used by the naturalist, Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente, in most of his productions. The greatness of these mountain ranges offers visitors, researchers and naturalists the possibility to observe in their most natural state Iberian wildlife such as the golden eagle, the bearded vulture and Iberian ibex, among others. And also other treasures in the form of flora, not only because of the extensive existing forests, but also thanks to the small and valuable herbaceous plants and shrubs, some of them exclusive to these mountains.
The Guadalquivir River, which begins near here, in Cañada de las Fuentes, has carved out a narrow gorge, the Cerrada del Utrero, (although from this viewpoint only its summit can be seen, the Lanchón Redondo). From here it is possible to see the first part of its vertiginous vertical drop on its north slope.
One of the viewpoints on the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Scenarios cycle route, found on the JF-7091 forest track that connects Vadillo Castril (Cazorla) with Don Domingo (Santiago Pontones).
From Cazorla, take the A-319 towards Tranco. Shortly after passing the gates of Las Palomas, take the turn-off towards Vadillo Castril (JF-7091 forest road). It is not necessary to enter this village, but instead continue through Cerrada del Utrero heading in the direction of Nava de San Pedro and Campos de Hernán Perea. The viewpoint is located about 2 kilometres from the Cerrada del Utrero information point.
