The Iberian lynx ecomuseum arises from the need to respond to the importance and role that the Sierra de Andújar has had in the recovery of this emblematic Mediterranean species, thanks to the good work of a large multidisciplinary team that has managed to reverse the critical situation in which the Iberian lynx was found at the end of the 20th century, reaching only two decades later population size figures that were unsuspected at the time and entirely encouraging.
The ecomuseum, which also provides support as an information point for the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park, has an exhibition space to understand the species, its behavior, its habitat, as well as a description of the different recovery programs, from which the significant improvement of its state of conservation has been forged. It has a shop, parking and gardens.
But above all, one of the main attractions of the ecomuseum consists of the possibility of closely watching two specimens of Iberian lynx in captivity that are found in a fenced enclosure built for this purpose. These are specimens that have already fulfilled the invaluable function of being part of the reproductive individuals that each year provided a new batch of Iberian lynx cubs in the Captive Breeding Centers for the species and that were subsequently released into the natural environment to the generation of new populations.
