Intervención arqueológica en el barranco del Alcázar de Alcalá del Río, Sevilla

Abstract

La limpieza de los restos emergentes ubicados en el barranco de la calle Alcázar de Alcalá del Río ha permitido caracterizar unos paramentos, conocidos desde la antigüedad, que se interpretaban como partes integrantes de los recintos fortificados romano e islámico. Si para los restos islámicos se ha confirmado la función y cronología, no ha ocurrido lo mismo para los romanos, que aún confirmándose su pertenencia a este periodo histórico, se perfilan como la trasera de una gran construcción de planta rectangular y notable altura orientada hacia el río y que puede formar parte de las instalaciones portuarias de Ilipa.

The cleaning of the emerging remains located in the precipice of Alcázar Street, in Alcalá del Río, have made possible to characterize certain walls, known since former times, interpreted as integral parts of the roman and islamic fortified precinct. Even though this function and chronology have been confirmed for the islamic remains, it has not happened the same for the roman ones which, although having been confirmed their belonging to this historical period, they are shaped as the back of a big building of rectangular floor and remarkable height facing the river, and which could be part of the dock facilities of Ilipa.
