Actividad arqueológica preventiva: avenida de Andalucía nº101, paseo de Juan Carlos I, Alcalá del Río, Sevilla

Abstract

El objetivo principal de la intervención arqueológica era confirmar la existencia de la hipotética necrópolis ubicada extramuros de la puerta norte de la ciudad, dada la falta de excavaciones que constaten su presencia. La delimitación de la misma es relativa, ya que obedece al estudio del parcelario (PGOU). Hemos de decir que tras finalizar la excavación no se ha detectado ningún enterramiento, ni resto perteneciente a ésta necrópolis, pudiendo afirmar que el solar se encuentra fuera del área de enterramientos. De igual modo no se han detectado restos arqueológicos pertenecientes a ninguna fase histórica. Habiendo sido el resultado de ambos cortes 1 y 2, negativos en cuanto a estructuras arqueológicas se refiere. Incluimos igualmente los resultados del estudio geoarqueológico realizado por M.A. Barral y F. Borja del área de Geografía Física de la Universidad de Huelva.

The principal aim of this archaeological excavation was to confirm the existence of the hypothetical necropolis located outside the city walls in the area of the Northern Gate, as it's presence to date hadn't been documented in previous excavations in the area. The boundaries of the necropolis were an approximate estimate in accordance with the PGOU land plotting study. Having finished the excavation, we have to say that neither burials nor structures related to the necropolis have been found, leading to the conclusion that the site lies outside the boundaries of the necropolis. Likewise, there has been no evidence of archaeological remains from any historical period, Trenches 1 and 2 both turning out to be archaeologically sterile. We also include the results of the Geo - archaeological study carried out by M.A. Barral and F. Borja from the department Physical Geography of the University of Huelva.
