Intervención Arqueológica Preventiva en la Capilla de Santa Catalina en Alcaudete (Jaén).

Abstract

La Intervención Arqueológica Preventiva consistió en la excavación de la extensión de la capilla con el objetivo de documentar los restos arqueológicos existentes y con ello conocer la cronología de fundación del edificio e identificar las causas de la humedad que estaban dañando las pinturas murales y los enlucidos que cubrían la capilla. Tras la intervención se pudo constatar que la primera fase de la capilla pertenece al Siglo XIV con la presencia de inhumaciones. Y respecto a las causas de la humedad que afectan a las pinturas murales se pudo conocer que no provienen del interior de la capilla por lo que se planteó una Intervención Arqueológica Urgente en el exterior de la misma para finalmente conocer su procedencia. The Preventive Archaeological Intervention involved excavating the chapel's extension in order to document existing archaeological remains and thus determine the building's foundation chronology and identify the causes of the humidity that were damaging the mural paintings and plaster covering the chapel. After the intervention, it was confirmed that the chapel's first phase belongs to the 14th century, with the presence of burials. As for the causes of the humidity affecting the mural paintings, it was determined that they do not come from within the chapel, so an Urgent Archaeological Intervention was proposed on the exterior of the chapel to finally determine their source.
