EL ALJIBE - Ventana del Visitante
The El Aljibe mountain massif is located in the heart of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the visitor centre is located in the main town of the region, Alcalá de Los Gazules, halfway between the countryside and the mountains.
Within the centre, the the singularities and excellence of this territory in Cadiz are exhibited. Among other aspects, the display relates how the current appearance of the mountains and the countryside does not depend only on environmental conditions, but also on the human interactions that have occurred throughout history. Another of the rooms focuses on the singularities in the ecology and landscape of the countryside and forests. This tour highlights the characteristics of the wooded formations, their associated fauna, the resources obtained by man from the environment and the current uses for tourism.
The park's dense woods are made up of wild olive trees, thick Moorish Valencian oaks, the best-preserved cork oaks in the Peninsula and cloud forests and 'canuto' forests (typical gallery forests in the Cádiz region), with exuberant and rare vegetation that has persisted here since the Tertiary Era. Nearby, the El Aljibe botanical garden allows you to get up close with this botanical wealth.
