DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

This route, parallel to the lagoon from which it takes its name, allows you to reach different observatories from which you can discover the aquatic fauna of these humid areas.

It is a permanent marsh formation that, after undergoing a drying process in the 1950s, was recovered and reconditioned to represent a number of aquatic and terrestrial environments. During the periods in which the marshes and other humid areas dry up, the wild olive is home to the birds that remain in these latitudes, constituting a cool refuge in the arid territory.

The fauna that can be seen is free from captivity, so you may need to pay full attention spot it. Different species are distinguished, according to the time of year. One of the most peculiar fauna, which can be spotted throughout the year, is the common swamphen, a bird with intense blue plumage and long red legs that finds one of its characteristic nesting areas in wild olive trees.

In spring, it will be easy to spot other resident or summer birds that also breed in the lagoon, perhaps even with their chicks, these include: mallards, common pochards, grebes, great crested grebes and black-crowned night herons, among others. During the autumn and winter months, it is possible to distinguish the wintering species that come from the north in search of milder climates such as gadwall mallards, wigeons and red-crested pochards... We recommend that you stay alert keep silent. Discovering the avifauna of the lagoon will require watching the movements of the vegetation, sounds and songs and the changes in shapes and colours among other things.

Along the path you will find various elements with traditional uses, some now redundant, that the inhabitants of the area made of the resources that the territory offered to them. Also, pay attention to the type of construction of the observatories; In the past, huts similar to these, built with palaustrine vegetation, were the habitual dwellings of many workers and their families.

From the botanical point of view, you will walk alongside the white poplars that surround the lagoon, the stone pines and the characteristic plant formations of the preserves; landscape that you will be able to discover if you continue along the following path.
