DESCRIPTION

The Majaceite River trail, which connects the towns of El Bosque and Benamahoma, is undoubtedly one of the most practiced trails in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, mainly due to the ease of its route and the beautiful landscape it crosses.

Starting from the town of El Bosque, the path runs in its first part following the course of the Majaceite River through the interior of a gallery forest. Poplars, willows, oleanders, sarsaparillas or honeysuckle grow so tightly packed that they make the banks of the river impenetrable, providing, on the one hand, a safe refuge for the fauna that resides here, and on the other, a sensation of freshness for hikers, even in cold weather. the hottest months. Throughout it we will observe signs of the close relationship that human beings and water have always maintained: mills and fulling mills.
In Benamahoma it is highly recommended to visit the Benamahoma Water Mill Ecomuseum located in the old El Nacimiento mill.

Back towards El Bosque we will have to retrace the path for about two hundred meters to find the detour to the circular route. We will return ascending the first steps through a gallery of laurel trees, to reach a Mediterranean forest of gall oaks, holm oaks, strawberry trees and cornicabras, at the very foot of the Majaceite valley. The trail runs here at a slightly higher level that will allow us to enjoy the view over the riverside forest, as well as the majestic panoramic view of the Sierra del Pinar and Pico del Torreón. Before reaching the town of El Bosque again, we will pass by the El Castillejo Botanical Garden, an obligatory visit if we want to discover the flora of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and the Ronda biogeographical sector.

- The Majaceite River is not designated as a bathing area, therefore bathing is not allowed. It is a path offered for the enjoyment of nature and the observation of the landscape.
- In no case is it allowed to stay with camping elements (tables, chairs, umbrellas) in any of its sections. Thank you for your collaboration.
- Please bring the dogs on a leash.
