VIEWPOINT

CABECERA DE RÍO VERDE

DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The viewpoint is located on the Montes de Parauta public mountain, in the municipality of Parauta, very close to the ‘Pinsapo de las Escaleretas’ Natural Monument and a short distance from another emblematic and centuries-old Spanish fir, the Pinsapo del Puntal de la Mesa or Falso Pinsapo de las Escaleretas. It stands on a platform measuring approximately 25 m2, paved with stones from the area and enclosed by metal posts and steel cables to prevent accidental falls.

This viewpoint offers sweeping views of the headwaters of the Verde River valley and the Sierra de Tolox, including Torrecilla and Alcazaba, and the Sierra Real de Istán. You can enjoy the geological diversity of this area, observing the contrast between the white mountains, composed of limestone rocks, and the brown mountains, composed of gneisses and peridotites that outcrop in the Sierra de Tolox and Sierra Real.

HOW TO GET

From Ronda, take the A-397 south towards San Pedro de Alcántara. After about 15 km, take the road on the left. Continue along the lane, which is paved at first, following the signs to the Los Quejigales recreational area. About 5 km further on, a sign indicates Pinsapo de Las Escaleretas on the right, where the trail begins a couple of kilometres further on. Follow this trail until you reach a lane where an unmarked path branches off to the left and ends at the viewpoint.
