As legend goes, the Puente de las Herrerías was renovated in one night by the knights who accompanied Isabel la Católica, in her bid to conquer Baza. The queen and her entourage camped here. But, as the river had swollen due to the autumn rains, it could not be waded through, so the knights built the bridge during the night.
This route will run parallel to the Guadalquivir river at first, climbing little by little, allowing you to fully appreciate the change that the vegetation undergoes throughout this ascent.
During the the trail, upon close inspection, you'll see a trough made from a fallen log, which has been hollowed out and placed in a humid area with water flow during winter, but which in summer would presumably be dry. The function of this peculiar trough is to supply water to cattle that, in ancient times, served as a support to the mountain population.
At the end point of the trail, you'll be able to see the marks on the the Pino de las Cruces, which were originally carved by a caravan accident that occurred in the area, taking time to pay mind to the souls of the three people who died in this accident.
From Cazorla on the A-319 road and then on the JF-7091, just after taking the JF-7092 road towards Vadillo Castril, pass this town and next to the Puente de las Herrerías is where the route begins.
