Open innovation Hub for Irrigation Systems in Mediterranean agriculture. - HUBIS -

The hypothesis underpinning the project PRIMA_HubIS is that bridging the actual irrigation performance gap requires a substantial paradigm shift, from the top-down approach that has driven irrigation modernization in the last decades to a bottom-up interdisciplinary approach making use of emerging low-cost technologies. PRIMA_HubIS will build a multi-actor innovation Hub for irrigation systems, based on the principles of participatory research. PRIMA-HubIS will be articulated in 6 Work-Packages (WPs). IFAPA will participate in the 6 WPs. IFAPA is leader of WP6, impact assessment, capacity building and dissemination.
Therefore, IFAPA is main responsible of the diffusion and internationalization plans and the communication activities. The Innovation Hub will comprise (i) local Site-iHubs in the diverse Mediterranean irrigated agroecosystems to involve local actors in co-innovation processes, (ii) a web platform (Med-iHub) to connect the former by sharing progress and outcomes, and (iii) Innovative makerspaces (Fab-Labs) to offer the opportunity for actors to co-design technological innovations. Hence, a large, effective and representative community connected through the Hub will be created.
