The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia is structured to perform two main functions:

1. A healthcare, function is performed by the Andalusian Network of Transfusion Medicine, Tissue, and Cells. This function is responsible for the supply of blood and blood derivatives to all public and private hospitals in Andalusia.
2. A research, function is performed by the Research Biobanks at any location of the SSPA designated for the collection, treatment, conservation and transfer of biological samples to researchers. These centres they are in charge of all the activities related to the obtaining, preparation, treatment, processing, preservation and distribution of blood, cells, tissues, biological samples, and any other human substance and/or clinical information that is intended to be used in research.
