The professionals of this public health research platform have contributed to the scientific production of this congress, contributing almost 17% of the poster communications of this meeting.

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia (SSPA) has received the public award for the best communication in poster format presented at the IX National Congress of Biobanks, recently held in Oviedo. With the title “ Development and implementation of a new Information System in the Networked Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia ”, the professionals of this platform for Andalusian public health research have presented the development of the new information system of the Biobank of Andalusia, based on BigData technology, and oriented to the management of samples, donors and projects. This system will allow a greater volume of information to be managed with greater efficiency for the development of large research projects.

The SSPA Biobank has contributed to the scientific fabric of this congress, in which more than 200 technicians, managers and researchers from all over Spain have participated, with 16.6% of the communications in poster format (12 communications out of 72 presented), of which 12.5% have corresponded to communications from the Biobank of Andalusia and the rest to collaborations with different working groups of the National Biobank Network Platform, in which it actively participates. In addition, the Biobank has presented 2 communications in speed poster format, has coordinated the workshop “Collection of prospective samples” with the Biobank of the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida and has been a guest speaker at the “Analysis of Risks and Opportunities” workshop by the extensive experience in risk management that it accredits, as well as being the first Biobank certified by ISO 9001:2015, which has a clear focus on risk management. Likewise, although the award did not go to the SSPA Biobank, the award in the ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Research Program) category, awarded by the scientific committee, went to the work “Direct donation strategy: creation of a registry of donors for biomedical research”, of the Network Biobank of the Region of Murcia, whose managers have indicated that they have been inspired by the Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research of Andalusia for the design and development of this initiative.

SSPA Network Biobank Information System (nSIBAI)

nSIBAI is the management system for the research area of the Networked Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia that uses state-of-the-art technology through non-relational databases (mongo type). This tool is a technological co-development that allows adaptation to the network operation of the SSPA biobank, improving accessibility to users and ensuring full traceability of the sample transfer processes as a guarantee for donors. The scope of this project covers the complete management of research projects (from the entry of the application and processing to the monitoring of results obtained from the research), the management of samples and their associated information and the management of donors, to which the system has all the necessary security levels.

Likewise, it will include the management of the database of the Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research of Andalusia (REDMI). Currently, this system is in the implementation phase in the networked Biobank nodes. This implementation will allow the SSPA Biobank to manage a greater volume of information with greater efficiency for the development of large research projects, all following the security and data protection standards that apply to the information managed by a biobank.
