The new equipment will allow the implementation of the nSIBAI information system, which manages large volumes of data to put them at the service of research.

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia (SSPA) has completed the provision of computer equipment to its nodes (distributed by Andalusian hospitals) to be able to implement the nSIBAI information system, a program that allows managing a large volume of data with maximum efficiency to make them available to research projects that request them.

These new equipment will speed up the process of registering biological samples and facilitate the traceability of ours in real time, helping to eliminate possible errors. Likewise, it will facilitate the work of Biobank professionals and reduce the execution times of researchers' requests, achieving greater efficiency and effectiveness of the processes.

The SSPA Biobank has, among all its nodes, thousands of biological samples stored for research. The management of biological samples and their associated information is a key and differentiating activity for current research. For this reason, the SSPA Biobank manages its samples through the nSIBAI program, which allows comprehensive monitoring of samples (from receipt of material from the donor to sending to the requesting researcher), donors and research projects with all guarantees. of necessary quality and safety.

In addition to the stored samples, the SSPA Biobank has a registry of more than 2,000 potential donors of samples for biomedical research, included in the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research, and who will also be managed through the nSIBAI program. The equipment provided will allow each node to manage the incorporation and monitoring of new donors to the Registry.

nSIBAI is a project that was born in 2017 as a result of the collaboration of professionals from the SSPA Biobank, the Progreso y Salud Foundation and Biosoft Innovation SL, which consisted of the development of a program that would allow managing a large volume of information with great efficiency. The improvements provided by this program are very useful for the development of large research projects.

About the Biobank

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia is organized as a network biobank formed by different associated nodes on provincial platforms, linked to health institutions and with a Coordination Node located in Granada. As a network biobank, it constitutes a resource platform that offers all types of biological samples and associated clinical data to researchers. At the same time, the Network of Tissue and Cell Transfusion Centers offers healthcare activity in this area framed in the structure of the Andalusian Health System (SAS).

About the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research

The Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research is a tool that allows Andalusians to participate directly in the development of biomedical research. This is a database in which basic identification and health information (data) of people interested in participating in research is collected. The body responsible for the Registry is the General Secretariat of Research, Development and Innovation in Health of the Ministry of Health and Families and the SSPA Biobank is in charge of its management.
