Granada hosts a meeting between scientists and companies in the biotechnology sector
Organized by the Biobanco and GENYO on December 2 and 3, it will feature in-person talks and virtual meetings
The objective is to establish collaborative ties between researchers and the business community.
The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia and the Pfizer-University of Granada-Junta de Andalucía Center, GENYO, organize the 'Open Innovation Forum in Biomedical Research' on December 2 and 3 in Granada.
This meeting was born with the aim of sharing the work carried out by scientists from both research spaces and the interests of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector; and aims to be a meeting point to promote R&D&i in biomedicine through public-private collaboration.
In this sense, the meeting has been structured in two sessions. The first of them, on December 2, will take place in person at GENYO with different round tables in which the research groups from both centers will present their lines of work, their results linked to scientific practice, scientific-technological capabilities, the services, and also future projects that may be of interest to the participating companies. The objective is to establish a first contact with which to identify common points so that new projects can emerge that benefit all parties involved.
For its part, the round tables will also present the experience of different companies that have developed joint projects with both GENYO and the Biobank, highlighting collaborative work and synergies between science and business.
Antonio Pineda Lucena, director of Translational Research and the Molecular Therapies Program of the Applied Medical Research Center, will also participate in this first day, who will offer the vision and experience of this institution in the field of open innovation.
On the second day, December 3, the day moves to the virtual field. To this end, a calendar of bilateral meetings has been established so that those companies and institutions that are interested in knowing more details can hold specific meetings with GENYO and Biobank professionals.
Attendance at this 'Open Innovation Forum in Biomedical Research' is free and requires registration both for in-person attendance and to request a bilateral meeting:

Reference space in research
Both GENYO and the Biobank are reference centers in biomedical research beyond the Andalusian territory.
The Pfizer-University of Granada-Junta de Andalucía Genomics and Oncological Research Center, Genyo, has been conceived as a space for research of excellence on the genetic basis of diseases - among them cancer - as well as on the influence of heredity genetics in the body's response to certain drugs.
Its activity, which has been carried out for more than a decade in the city of Granada with international impact, is structured into two large areas of knowledge: area of genomic medicine, with five research groups; and genomic oncology area, with six. In addition, the center has different research support units.
The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia, for its part, is organized as a network biobank formed by different associated nodes on provincial platforms, linked to health institutions and with a Coordination Node located in Granada. As a network biobank, it constitutes a resource platform that offers all types of biological samples and associated clinical data to researchers. Along with this, the Network of Tissue and Cell Transfusion Centers offers healthcare activity in this area framed in the structure of the Andalusian Health System (SAS).
