The Node of the Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville of the Biobank of the Andalusian Health System has participated in a study that allows predicting whether a Covid patient will end up in the ICU after performing a urine test.

The role of the SSPA Biobank in this study has been the centralization of urine samples from active COVID patients. For this purpose, the Biobank carried out a circuit of prospective sample collection in collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Units, with Dr. Jesús Rodríguez Baño, and the Nephrology Units with Dr. Mercedes Salgueiro, “researcher responsible for the study at the hospital”, of the Virgen Macarena University Hospital. The Biobank has been responsible for the immediate collection of the samples, processing and preservation at -80ºC until their shipment, maintaining the highest quality and traceability of the samples at all times.
