Researchers from the Public Health System of Andalusia show their work at the European Researchers Night

Scientists and experts from research centers and institutes, hospitals and the Progreso y Salud Foundation participate with workshops, conferences and experiments in this dissemination activity that takes place in public spaces in all Andalusian provinces.

Public health in Andalusia will once again have its space in the European Researchers' Night through the workshops, conferences and experiments that its researchers and experts will take to the squares and public spaces where this activity is held on September 30 under the motto “Women and men who do science for you.”

A good number of researchers from research centers and institutions such as the Biobank of the Andalusian Public Health System, the Pfizer Center-University of Granada-Andalusian Board of Genomics and Oncological Research (GENYO), the Progreso y Salud Foundation through its IAVANTE Line, the Andalusian School of Public Health, CABIMER or the provincial biomedical research institutes, participate by bringing some of their activities closer to citizens, allowing their access to science.

In this edition of The Night of the Researchers, topics as diverse as the importance of the work of biobanks for biomedical research or how the research vocation is awakened will be discussed, all with the help of active professionals. Likewise, for example, they will teach how to extract DNA, advances in cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular diseases or Covid will be shown, or future students of health degrees will be taught to be “Surgeons for a day”, with a workshop in the who will be able to train with a pelvitrainer (simulator) to learn simple surgical techniques by looking at a screen, coordinating hand movements when they are handling forceps through tiny holes to perform minimally invasive surgery.

In addition, we will talk about health hoaxes, the consequences of the consumption of toxic substances, the use of statistical tools in health decision-making or the manufacture of artificial tissues to treat diseases, as well as healthy eating through a practical workshop.

The complete programming of this new edition with the participation of the organizations of the Andalusian Public Health System in all Andalusian provinces can be consulted at https://lanochedelosinvestigadores.fundaciondescubre.es/ .

It should be remembered that the European Researchers' Night is a scientific dissemination project promoted by the European Commission within the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon Europe program, which takes place simultaneously in more than 371 European cities and 30 countries since 2005. In Andalusia, the Progreso y Salud Foundation is part of the group of entities organizing this event, along with public universities and knowledge-promoting entities.
