A day full of science in Granada
As a final culmination of this atypical September, the European Researchers' Night was held in Granada. It is a space where both children and adults could learn and have fun thanks to science. Guided at all times by scientific experts, we were able to experience first-hand many of the processes carried out within the laboratories.
The tents set up were located throughout the entire Hall in the center of Granada. The spaces were themed, with those aimed at the little ones called Kids Corner, institutional stands such as those of the University of Granada or those of the Higher Council for Scientific Research and others from private institutions.
In each one, different talks had been scheduled that would take place throughout the Friday afternoon. Thus, one could find presentations ranging from an introduction to artificial intelligence to workshops given by the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia on the human body seen from a microscope.
The atmosphere couldn't have been better. Many families and curious people have come to have fun and learn about the different branches of science. Upon entering from the Fuente de las Granadas you could find that many of the stalls had a good influx of people listening to the speaker's speech. Others, who were about to begin, loudly demanded the attention of the visitors. In this way, shouting 'they are spying on you!' The booth of the Information and Communications Technology Research Center of the University of Granada tried to create curiosity among those who passed through the area. The talk was about monitoring smart devices.
The attendance of children, who sat and participated in the different talks and activities organized, has been high. You could see how they were having fun in the different stands carrying out all kinds of experiments, always helped by the experts who were at each stand.
This year there have been around 300 activities in total. At the same time, throughout the morning, a multitude of schoolchildren who came from various educational centers spent the morning visiting the stands and taking part in some of the workshops that were organized for the occasion.
The Mayor of Granada Francisco Cuenca and the rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda, have participated in the event. After opening the day in the early afternoon, they have been around the facility and have even gone inside the small booths to carry out some of the activities.
In this way, science, learning and fun have been showcased in days dedicated to the most curious and to creating scientific concerns for those who are still at an early school age.
