Juanma Moreno asks for the State Public Health Agency for Granada
During his visit to the new Rovi plant in Escúzar, the president of the Board claims that "the reasons are accumulating" for the province to be the headquarters of the entity.
The pharmaceutical company has opened this new factory after an investment of 33 million, which will create 200 highly qualified jobs.
The fundamental production in the new infrastructure is heparin, of which Rovi is responsible for 10% of global production.
Granada continues to add assets to its technology and health industry. The Metropolitan and Technological Park, Technological Industrial City and Innovation Area (Citai), in Escúzar is a good example of this. Even more so after the opening of the new heparin plant from Rovi, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Moderna vaccines against Covid, and which is added to the existing one in the capital of Granada.
The president of the Andalusian Regional Government, Juanma Moreno, went there this Friday, taking advantage of the opportunity to vindicate Granada's candidacy to be the headquarters of the State Public Health Agency. "The reasons accumulate," said the president.
Within the framework of Citai, whose crown jewel is expected to finally be the Ifmif-Dones particle accelerator, Moreno has insisted on the "great health R&D&I ecosystem" that the province of Granada in the whole of Spain, and that the Board aspires for it to also be so in the whole of Europe.
It is about "generating scientific and health projects" that contribute to "the name of Andalusia appearing in large letters and in capital letters on the map, as well as the advances" of a social nature associated with the previous ones, the Andalusian president continued. The University of Granada appears in this scenario as the backbone of that scientific hope for the autonomous community, largely because of what Moreno has described. "Its high level of specialization" and "talent" allow the University to be a quarry for companies that are arriving in the province.
Ecosystem
Regarding the possibility of Granada hosting the headquarters of the State Public Health Agency, the president has highlighted above all the quantity and quality of the entities that exist in the Granada ecosystem.
Among other organizations, the coordinating node of the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia, which is the largest in the country, the Genyo Center or Rovi itself. Added to these are the Clínico San Cecilio university hospitals, in the Health Technology Park, and Virgen de las Nieves, one of the most prominent nationally in aspects such as oncology.
The industrial hub that Escúzar is beginning to assume in relation to the capital also foreshadows a series of synergies that are gradually taking place. Rovi's arrival in the province is solid. Moreno himself was ironic about the matter in his appearance. "After everything you have spent, you can't leave now," he said, laughing with the company representatives.
Rovi invested 33 million euros to build the new plant in the Granada town in record time (the first stone was laid in 2020). But in sum, together with what was invested in the capital's PTS, the figure rises to 130 million in the last 15 years. In addition, another 200 employees are added to this new plant, all of them highly qualified.
That is the context in which the Board is investing for the province, since this, along with 44 other projects, are included in its accelerator unit as a strategic project for Andalusia. "Today is a happy day," Moreno stressed in his speech.
