The communication channel it maintains with donors, which allows them to know their participation in the development of biomedical research, has received the distinction of IBIMA-BIONAND Platform.

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia has received an award within the framework of the events of the 10th anniversary of IBIMA-Plataforma Bionand, an event during which various distinctions have been awarded to entities and initiatives linked to Andalusian R&D&i .

Specifically, the Biobank has received this award for its communication platform, a tool that facilitates the participation of donors in the development of biomedical research. Called the Donor Portal, this communication channel “has been developed with the aim of allowing real-time interaction between donors of samples for research and the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia,” says María Luisa Hortas, a researcher who has led the project.

In this sense, the Donor Portal, which has received the 'IBIMA Award for innovations transferred to clinical practice', allows users to manage their informed consents for research, revoke them if they wish; manage the consents of your possible legal representatives (minors and disabled people); have information related to the donated samples (type, number, where they are located, where and when the donation process was carried out...). The donor is also allowed to see in detail which samples have been donated for research, accessing non-confidential information about the project and even seeing the published results of these studies where the citizen has participated with the donation of samples and data.

This portal facilitates access to information related to donation and biomedical research not only for Biobank sample donors but also for people registered in the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research, an initiative that allows citizens collaborate first-hand with health research. The Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research already has more than 2,755 registered members whose samples have supported various research projects. Donations of biological samples, in general, are essential to facilitate the viability of biomedical research projects that help advance scientific knowledge, disease diagnosis, therapeutic efficacy and access to drugs.
