The Cádiz Node of the Andalusian Biobank obtains the AENOR quality certificate

It is the first time that the province of Cadiz has obtained it, thus supporting its commitment to promoting biomedical research and promoting donations for research purposes.

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia (SSPA) in the province of Cádiz has recently obtained the certificate granted by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR) according to the ISO 9001:2015 standard. The recognition, which is achieved after an audit process, guarantees that the entity has correctly implemented a quality management system according to the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

With the new certificate, the Cádiz provincial node of the SSPA Biobank advances taking another step towards achieving its fundamental objectives, such as the promotion of biomedical research in the province and the promotion of donation for biomedical research purposes by through the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research (REDMI).

The Biobank is a strategy of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Government of Andalusia that constitutes a research support platform, specialized in obtaining, processing and storing human biological samples and their associated data, thus providing a public service to the research community of Andalusia. Specifically, the activity of the Biobank node in the province of Cádiz is carried out thanks to the joint and coordinated work of the professionals who make up the Puerta del Mar University Hospital, the Puerto Real University Hospital, the Jerez University Hospital in la Frontera, the Hospital de la Línea de la Concepción and the Regional Center for Transfusion, Tissues and Cells.

As explained by the person in charge of the Biobank at the Puerta del Mar Hospital, the Puerta del Mar Hematology specialist Antonio Leopoldo Santisteban, the coordination between the Clinical Management Units of Pathological Anatomy and the different clinical-surgical circuits established for the collection of samples is essential. In turn, the specialist points out, the Biobank of the Cadiz province constitutes one of the central research support services of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation of Cádiz (INiBICA) and collaborates closely with the teaching and research community of the University of Cádiz (UCA).

Integrated into the Biobank is the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research, which allows Andalusians to participate directly in the development of research by donating any biological sample of human origin. As of today, the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research has a total of 2,755 registered.
