The Biobank of Andalusia organizes a day to make itself known among health professionals

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia is organizing a day on June 27 for professionals to learn general aspects about its operation and regulation, as well as the services it offers.
This is the second edition of this informative activity that is held online through the IAVANTE training platform of the Progreso y Salud Foundation, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The objectives of this session are to make SSPA health professionals aware of the structure, organization, operation and activity carried out by the Biobank, as well as the strategic lines in infectious diseases, hemato-oncological diseases and rare/minority diseases.
Participants will learn about the current legislation applicable to the obtaining and use of human biological samples and their associated data for biomedical research and will be trained in concepts and procedures related to the obtaining, registration, traceability, processing and conservation of biological samples, within the framework of the quality management system of the SSPA Biobank. In addition, they will learn about the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research as a tool for citizen participation in biomedical research.

The Biobank of the Andalusian Health System
The Biobank of the Andalusian Health System is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, which is part of the strategic line of the Government of Andalusia to optimize therapeutic procedures for patients and promote biomedical research and the protection of the rights of patients. citizen sample donors, as well as data used in healthcare and research.
Integrated into the Biobank is the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research, which allows Andalusians to participate directly in the development of research by donating any biological sample and/or data of human origin such as blood, tears, saliva, hair, nails. , feces, urine, sweat, etc.
The activity of the Biobank has been increasing progressively since the moment of its creation. Since 2020, it has received 12,891 new donors with oncological, infectious and parasitic diseases, mental, cardiovascular, respiratory, genitourinary diseases... and healthy patients who are used as controls.
These new donors have given rise to 50,449 donations that have involved 134,340 samples used in research and teaching projects.
Parallel to the Biobank activity, the number of people registered in the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research has also been growing, which today reaches 2,818 registered.
