More than 700 scientists will fill the streets of Granada with science this Friday at the European Researchers' Night

More than 700 scientists from 16 different institutions in Granada will once again take science to the streets of Granada this Friday, September 29, in a new edition of the European Researchers' Night 2023, which will be held simultaneously in more of 400 European cities.
That day, between 5 and 11 p.m., the Paseo del Salón will host more than 30 stands that will host talks, workshops, experiments and other recreational activities to show the citizens of Granada the most human side of science.
This morning the official presentation of the event took place, attended by the vice-rector for University Extension, Heritage and Institutional Relations of the University of Granada, Margarita Sánchez Romero; the director of the School of Arab Studies of the CSIC, María Teresa Penelas Meléndez; the provincial deputy for European Funds, Development, Industry and Employment, Antonio Díaz; the managing director of GENYO, Luisa Rancaño, and the director of the Discover Foundation, Teresa Cruz, among other authorities from the participating institutions.
The event was also attended by a group of 75 third grade students from the Sagrado Corazón school in Granada, who carried out experiments and scientific dissemination activities with scientists from the University of Granada, as a sample of some of the workshops from which The attending public will be able to enjoy this Friday.
Thus, and with the help of researchers from the Department of Construction Engineering and Engineering Projects and the Department of Civil Engineering of the Higher Technical School of Roads, Canals and Ports (ETSCCP) of the UGR, the children have made an arch of voussoirs , built the Da Vinci Bridge and created its own photovoltaic cell. Teachers from the La Inmaculada Teaching Center have also participated, carrying out experiments with light with the schoolchildren.
More than 440 researchers from the University of Granada will participate in this important dissemination event, which will also be held on the UGR campuses in Ceuta and Melilla, in addition to 138 volunteers.
The activities planned for the morning of September 29 will have the little ones as protagonists: some 400 schoolchildren from different educational centers in Granada will visit the stands to carry out workshops and participate in different activities. One of the objectives of the European Researchers' Night is, precisely, to awaken scientific vocations in children and young people.
In the afternoon, from 5 to 11 p.m., activities open to the public will be held, which will conclude with a free-access show called 'Navigators of the Skies', starting at 10 p.m. on the stage set up for the event. occasion on the Paseo del Salón.
The Night in Granada
In Granada, the organization of the European Researchers' Night is carried out by the University of Granada, the four CSIC centers that participate in this project (Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia, School of Arab Studies, Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine López- Neyra and Estación Experimental del Zaidín) and the Progreso y Salud Public Foundation (through Biobanco and Genyo), with the support of the Granada City Council.
The Andalusian School of Public Health, IFMIF-DONES, DASCI, CIMCYC, ASBAN, the Health Technology Park, the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.Granada), the Caja Granada Museum, and the Caja Foundation also participate in the Night. Rural, Caja Granada Foundation, Granada Provincial Council, the Piel Sana Association and FIDESOL, among other institutions.

The European Researchers' Night is a scientific dissemination project promoted by the European Commission within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon Europe program, coordinated in Andalusia by the Discover Foundation with funding from the Department of University, Research and Innovation.
The consortium is made up of the Universities of Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga, Pablo de Olavide and Seville, eight centers of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), the IMGEMA-Royal Botanical Garden of Córdoba and the Public Foundation Progress and Health through Genyo and the Health System Biobank.
At the same time, Radio Television of Andalusia, the Business Agency for Economic Transformation and Development TRADE, the Andalusian Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries, Food and Ecological Production Research and Training (IFAPA) and Loyola University are strategic partners of the project and collaborate closely in its development.
