Patients and professionals from the Biobank of Andalusia unite for biomedical research
The relationship between both groups is key to facilitating the work of researchers and the proper functioning of the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors.
The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia has been collaborating for years with patient associations from different Andalusian provinces such as Granada, Almería, Córdoba or Málaga. This relationship allows patients and their families to participate directly in biomedical research through actions such as donating data and biological samples or making financial contributions to research projects.
The link between both entities is valuable for the development of Health research, since it allows increasing the availability of biological samples. In this sense, to publicize the importance of this relationship, within the framework of the 'European Researchers' Night' ', the SSPA Biobank has organized a round table in Granada to exchange experiences and publicize the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors as a tool for citizen participation in biomedical research.
The participants in the activity 'Patient associations: the engine of biomedical research' were the Granada Association of Multiple Sclerosis (AGDEM), which has been working with them for seven years carrying out numerous support activities, and the Granada Association of Fibromyalgia Affected , Chronic Fatigue and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome (AGRAFIM), which has collaborated with the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors since November 2022.
The Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors is essential to facilitate the viability of projects that help advance scientific knowledge, disease diagnosis, therapeutic efficacy and access to drugs. Today there are 3,060 registered participants, thanks to which 19 research projects have been carried out.
The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia has been participating in 'The European Researchers' Night' for ten years, carrying out numerous activities in different Andalusian provinces. In this edition, they have once again demonstrated their commitment to scientific dissemination with the development of a wide and varied program of activities aimed at all types of audiences.
