A biomedical escape room challenges students across Spain to stop a simulated health emergency
What would future biosciences professionals do in the face of an unknown infectious outbreak? This is the situation that the participants of "Bio Code: Hospital Mission", a biomedical escape room that is being developed these days at the IAVANTE Advanced Clinical Simulation Center, in Granada, will have to face. on the occasion of the V State Congress of Bioscience Students.
The activity is organized by IAVANTE of the Progreso y Salud Foundation, in collaboration with the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia, the Service of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital and the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Management of the Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies.
For two and a half hours, students become protagonists of an immersive experience that places them at the center of a simulated health emergency. To achieve this, they will have to work in teams and investigate the origin of an emerging biological threat, analyze samples, interpret clinical results and take decisions that will be key to preventing the spread of the outbreak.
The initiative combines clinical simulation techniques and gamification elements to offer a different way of learning, in which the knowledge acquired in the classrooms is transferred to a practical, safe and highly realistic environment. Likewise, through the different challenges posed, the participants train essential skills for their professional future, such as critical thinking, analytical skills, effective communication and teamwork.
This activity highlights the commitment of the entities of the Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies with the training of future generations of health professionals and scientists, promoting innovative methodologies that bring students closer to situations similar to those they may encounter throughout their professional career.
This is the second edition of "Bio Code: Hospital Mission", an initiative that already aroused great interest among those attending the congress last year and that obtained high satisfaction rates from the participants, consolidating itself as one of the most valued activities of the program.
IAVANTE's Advanced Clinical Simulation Center is a particularly suitable environment for this type of experience thanks to its technological facilities and the recreation of care scenarios that allow training professional skills in conditions very close to reality.
