The Public Health Biobank has trained almost 1,600 professionals in the last five years

The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia, under the Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, maintains a varied training offer that, during the last five years, has been consolidated among public health professionals and students of branches related to Life Sciences Life. 

Specifically, and during the last five years, this platform has trained 1,597 people in some of the editions of its courses, which address different topics and modalities of participation. 

In this sense, and over the last five years, more than 360 actions have been developed related to training. Not only are these courses and training sessions, but numerous exchanges have also been organized in which professionals from other centers are welcomed to learn about the operation of the Biobank; or the curricular practices of university or professional training students who choose this Andalusian platform as a center to learn and improve their skills. 

The interest of vocational students in putting in practice, his knowledge in the Public Health Biobank has been increasing in recent times. In 2025 it was the training centre for 17 students and, in total, in the last five years it has hosted 71, spread across the different provincial nodes in Almeria, Cordoba, Malaga and Seville in addition to the coordinating node, located in Granada. These experiences have allowed the students integrate into a highly specialized professional environment, participating in processes related to the management, processing and custody of biological samples intended for biomedical research. 

On the other hand, six university students, specifically from the University of Granada and the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville), have developed internships curricula at the Biobank of Andalusia. In addition, in this period, 11 master's theses and a doctoral thesis have been tutored, actively contributing to the academic and scientific development of students. 

The realization of these practices allows to complement the theoretical training acquired in schools with an experience applied in a real professional environment. students have the opportunity to learn about the working methodology of a scientific-technical infrastructure of the Public Health System of Andalusia, apply the knowledge acquired and develop key skills for their future employment. 

The Biobank of Andalusia, a research support platform 

The Health System Biobank Público de Andalucía is a platform of specialized services dedicated to the provision of biological samples and associated data for the development of biomedical research projects. It is an initiative of the Ministry of Health, Presidency and Emergencies, which works in a network to support specialized research in the collection, processing and storage of samples and their associated data, to make them available to the scientific community, thus providing a public service that meets the needs of researchers. 

In 2025, 119,265 samples and data on diseases and healthy patients were recorded and 36,312 samples and data were provided for research and teaching projects. In addition, some 668 have been managed requests.
