IAVANTE, belonging to the Andalusian Public Foundation for Progress and Health, under the Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, will offer practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation to all those who visit its exhibitor this afternoon, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., in the Paseo del Salón de Granada, on the occasion of the European Researchers' Night. Through simulation dummies and participatory dynamics, the activity will show the importance of correctly performing chest compressions, an intervention that can be decisive to save a life in the event of a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Under the title ‘CPR at stake: the challenge that saves lives’, the heightr will allow attendees to practice the maneuvers on mannequins connected to a system that will evaluate the quality of the compressions in real time. The results will be represented on a screen by a competition inspired by a football match: the better CPR is performed, the more the corresponding player will advance towards the goal until the goal is scored.

This propposite combines learning, simulation and play to bring basic knowledge to citizens that can help them act quickly during the first minutes of an emergency, while health services arrive. To expand this training, IAVANTE offers on its website www.iavante.es a manual on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of the automated external defibrillatorado.

The European Researchers' Night is an initiative promoted by the European Commission that is held simultaneously in many European cities to bring science and those who make it possible closer to citizens. In Andalusia it is coordinated by the Discover Foundation and is developed within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of Horizon Europe.

A trthrough workshops, demonstrations, experiments and meetings with professionals, this initiative shows in a close and understandable way how research and innovation are part of everyday life and contribute to improving people's well-being.

From Laparoscopic Surgery to DNA: More Science to Experience

The Andalusian Public Foundation Progressand Health will complete its participation in the European Researchers' Night with other workshops that will invite the public to experiment with laparoscopic surgery and discover the journey of biological samples, the microscopic world of cells and the secrets of DNA.

In addition to CPR training, IAVANTE will organize the workshop ‘Surgeon for a day’, which will allowthe public will approach laparoscopic surgery and learn some of the skills that health professionals must develop to perform this type of intervention.

This workshop offers participants the possibility to use laparoscopic surgery simulators to practice basic exercises of coordination, precision and forceps handling. The team ofIAVANTE will explain the characteristics of this surgical technique and the importance of pre-training procedures in safe and controlled environments.

For its part, the Coordinating Node of the Networked Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia, also integrated into the Progreso y Salud Foundation, will develop four practical workshops on its stand. The public will be able tofollow the path of a blood sample from its collection to its processing and storage at 80 degrees below zero; observe healthy and pathological tissues, chromosomes and cell lines under the microscope; extract and visualize DNA from a saliva sample, and prepare, stain and analyze cells of the oral mucosa.

These activities will show in a simple way and participatehow samples that can later be used in biomedical research projects are studied and preserved.

The Biobank space will also have the information point ‘In research, you are important. Donate science’, in which its professionals will explain the operation of the Andalusian Registry of Donors for Biomedical Research.interested parties will be able to know the requirements to register, the types of samples that can be donated and the ethical and confidentiality guarantees that protect donors, in addition to resolving their doubts about how to actively collaborate with the research.
